‘Can you please film me?’ As an example of this programme, Hanna Schimek describes the genesis of G.D. Architekt, whose cooperative approach is characteristic of the joint work: ‘23.4.1994, Frankfurt an Main. Gustav reads me an article from the Frankfurter Allgemeine newspaper. It announces the demolition of two high-rise buildings of the old headquarters of the Federal Railway at the exhibition centre with 850 explosive charges for the coming day. This will be one of the largest detonations in Frankfurt am Main since the Second World War. We decide to attend this event. Gustav's plan is to be filmed with a static camera at the time of the detonation. I am filming: Gustav in a side pose in the foreground, the two buildings in the background. Nothing happens for a long time. Then a tower block slowly collapses. A cloud of dust rises, comes closer and slowly fogs the cityscape completely. Gustav, the architect, watches. Cut. End. My absolute favourite film.’
