‘The cinematograph is a script with images in motion and with sounds.’ This quote comes from Robert Bresson's book Notes on the Cinematograph, which served as a source of inspiration for Gustav Deutsch: ‘It encourages reflection on one's own creative process, questions categorisations and classifications, and leads back to what film could be in contrast to mainstream cinema’. The works in this programme are dedicated to the above-mentioned movement, that of the camera and that of the subjects. The films were made while travelling, focus on routes and means of transport, and place the astonished filmmakers in a world that holds both the everyday and the extraordinary ready for playful reflection.
