My Sister Eileen

Auteur filmmaker Quine, who had played the supporting role of shop assistant Frank in Alexander Hall's adaptation of a successful Broadway comedy 13 years earlier, switched to the director's chair for the Technicolor musical remake of the same name about two sisters on the sometimes misguided search for happiness in New York. The brilliant result also impressed Jean-Luc Godard - one of his favourite films. (red)
