Shortly after the introduction of the ‘German Mother's Cross of Honour’, this film tells the story of one such mother: Marthe Pirlinger tragically loses her husband and now has to raise her four children alone and against great odds. Through her willingness to make sacrifices, she turns them into ‘useful members of the national community’. Despite the devastating portrayal of men, Goebbels was delighted with this ‘victory of the German film’.
