Mutiny in Heaven: Nick Cave & The Birthday Party
MUTINY IN HEAVEN features the exciting, debauched and often hilarious adventures of Melbourne's legendary post-punk band THE BIRTHDAY PARTY - in their own words.
Formed in Melbourne, Australia in the late 1970s, The Birthday Party was one of the most influential bands of its time. Fueled by the fractious relationship between singer Nick Cave and guitarist Rowland S. Howard, The Birthday Party were often called the most dangerous band in the world.
In February 1980, they were still the Boys Next Door until they changed their name to The Birthday Party and moved to London, then West Berlin. They wrote increasingly terrifying, sexual and angry music, turning their performances into antagonistic art ordeals. Backstage, things got even more chaotic. Nick Cave, Rowland S. Howard, Mick Harvey, Tracy Pew and Phill Calvert lapsed into addiction, psychosis, prison and, worst of all, creative differences.
Featuring a soundtrack curated by Mick Harvey and many rare and unseen photos, artwork, letters and diaries, unreleased tracks and studio recordings, Mutiny in Heaven is an exciting chronicle of the band and a must for post-punk fans!
