Pepa's world collapses when her lover Ivan dumps her over the phone. Her best friend, on the other hand, has fallen in love with a Shiite terrorist who is wanted by the police. When Ivan's grown-up son Carlos turns up at Pepa's flat with his fiancée, the situation becomes increasingly tense ... Almodóvar's film characters are always on the verge of a nervous breakdown when they become entangled in the labyrinth of passions, completely subject to the law of desire. Torn stockings and broken hearts, red telephones thrown out of the window and a gazpacho spiked with sleeping pills are the icing on the cake of this marvellously over-the-top yet never out of control comedy sensation.
