After the death of his wife, 50-year-old Pierre has to bring up his two sons, 22-year-old Fus and his younger brother Louis, on his own. The three of them are very close. Pierre is a railroad worker and usually works at night. Louis, 19, is a withdrawn type and is about to study literature in Paris. His brother Fus has no academic ambitions and would like to start a technical apprenticeship. When Pierre notices that Fus is drifting deeper and deeper into the right-wing scene, he tries to confront his son. For Pierre, a leftist from the working class, his son's behavior is completely at odds with his own values.
