Director Genya Tachibana (Shôzô Îzuka) has wanted to interview his beloved film actress Chiyoko Fujiwara (Miyoko Shôji) for ages. When the film studio that made Fujiwara famous is forced to close, the former screen star finally gives her permission for an interview.

Director Tachibana, full of anticipation, sets off with his less than enthusiastic cameraman Ida (Masaya Onosaka) to visit the actress, who has been living in seclusion for 30 years. Before the interview, Genya Tachibana presents her with an old key that the star used to wear around his neck and guarded like the apple of his eye, but then lost during the shooting of his last film. Moved by this gift, which is so important to her, she begins to tell the story of her life.
