The documentary "Rental Mafia in Vienna: How Real Estate Sharks Get Rid of Tenants" exposes how speculation in the housing market endangers people's lives, particularly in Vienna’s so-called "horror houses." The film reveals how real estate companies deliberately let inhabited buildings deteriorate and harass and intimidate tenants to force them out. At the same time, the housing crisis is exploited by renting out damp, dilapidated apartments to refugees in desperate need of shelter.

All of this is driven by immoral and ruthless profiteering – and unfortunately, it is a systematic issue.
