MEMORY OF SWEET HOMELAND
This documentary sensitively traces the complex aftermath of the tragic events of the Greco-Turkish War and is a deeply personal project for its director, Stavros Papageorgiou. A prominent figure in Cypriot cinema for more than three decades, Papageorgiou explores his own family history through the story of his relatives, the Tosounoglou family. They were among the 3,400 refugees who fled Anatolia (also known as Asia Minor) during the war of 1919 to 1922 and found safe haven on the island of Cyprus. For many, it became a second home, and they eventually became fully integrated into Cypriot society. An ode to human resilience in the face of devastating catastrophe. (NY)
