Mein Nachbar Totoro

Little Mei and her slightly older sister Satsuki move with their father to a house in the countryside, not far from the sanatorium where their sick mother is staying. The new surroundings, the crunching beams of the house, the dark corners in the bushes and the neighboring forest are one big playground for the girls. While Satsuki is at school and her father is at work, bored Mei runs after two droll little creatures that take refuge from her in the copse under a massive tree. However, Mei does not let herself be stopped and meets the giant furry and friendly forest creature Totoro in the thicket. It is the beginning of a wonderful friendship.

The great achievement of MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO is to be one of the very few films that unsurpassably recreate the universal experience of childhood. The time when the wonders of the world and those of one's imagination provide as much adventure as one could wish for.
