Marble Hornets
The creepypasta surrounding the Slender Man, a tall, thin, white-skinned figure in a black suit, became a popular internet craze in 2009. Just ten days after publishing a ‘photo’ of the figure, then 21-year-old friends Troy Wagner and Joseph DeLage uploaded the first Marble Hornets video to YouTube. Over the following five years, in three seasons and a total of 133 episodes, they expanded the story of young Jay, who tries to find his friend Alex, who has disappeared without a trace, and in doing so falls deeper and deeper into the maelstrom of the Slender Man. One thing is certain: The nine-hour web series is one of the scariest that the found-footage horror genre has ever produced. (mk)
