Mano Destra/ Happy Birthday / In Tracht (Archivtitel)
Before that:
Happy Birthday - Lil Picard Ulrike Ottinger. DE 1974, DCP (from Super 8), colour, 13 min
In Tracht (archive title) Ashley Hans Scheirl, Ursula Pürrer. AT 1984/85, DCP (from Super 8), colour, 1 min
Three queer films and their miraculous (re)paths into the archive: Ulrike Ottinger is a pioneer in terms of archiving her own work by commissioning the digitisation of her analogue film material at an early stage and creating a detailed website as part of her catalogue raisonné. Happy Birthday - Lil Picard is one of Ottinger's early Super 8 works and documents the atmosphere of an exuberant birthday party at the Galerie Werner Kunze in Berlin in the mid-1970s. In Tracht by Ashley Hans Scheirl and Ursula Pürrer is part of a series of previously unseen ‘home movies’ that are stored at the Film Museum and have been digitised as part of the ‘Kulturerbe digital’ project. Cléo Uebelmann's film Mano Destra has circulated in feminist contexts in Europe since the 1980s and achieved cult status. Today, two 16mm copies of this experimental film still exist, which uses a strict black and white aesthetic to stage explicit lesbian S&M fantasies to the music of the Swiss dark wave group The Vyllies.
