MANAS
13-year-old Tielle lives with her parents and siblings on the island of Marajó in the north of the Brazilian Amazon. Her life still seems carefree: school, church, friends, family. This changes drastically when her father begins to take advantage of the fact that his daughter is not yet aware of what sexual assault means. Without ever explicitly depicting the offences, director Marianna Brennand tells a story about abuse in the family that has been researched for years. Tielle gets to know the patriarchy in all its harshness - but she will fight back.
