Man Bites Dog
Three filmmakers accompany a charismatic and narcissistic serial killer in his everyday life and his deeds and ultimately become accomplices in order to obtain even worse images. Even after its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, the shocker, which was conceived and realised jointly by the Belgian trio Poelvoorde/Belvaux/Bonzel in almost all essential functions, was the subject of controversy. Shot in cinéma vérité style on black and white 16mm film, the mockumentary is a gallant, cynical reckoning with the media spectacle economy and as such is probably even more relevant and provocative today than it was back then. Quite unforgettable! (mk)
