Mamma Roma (1962)

When her pimp and father of her child marries another woman, ‘Mamma Roma’ (Anna Magnani) tries to put the past behind her and start a new life: She moves to a middle-class neighbourhood with her 16-year-old son, who grew up in a boarding school in the countryside, and runs a vegetable stall. Their new life together turns out to be more tense than planned, and suddenly the pimp Carmine reappears, now separated from his new wife, and presents her with an ultimatum.
