Little Syria

FromReem Karssli, Madalina Rosca,

Year2025

Duration90min.

LITTLE SYRIA, directed by Reem Karssli and Madalina Rosca, is an intimate and profoundly human documentary about the long, unfinished journeys of Syrian refugees caught in the tension between displacement, loss, and the search for belonging. Filmed over more than two decades in Syria, Germany, and several other European countries, the film follows Reem, her brother Mohammed, and Yasser—three people caught between a homeland they were forced to leave to survive and a Europe that simultaneously welcomes and rejects them.

In grappling with the trauma of exile and the question of what remains of the Syrian revolution, the film offers a relentlessly honest glimpse into often invisible realities of life, shaped by war, resilience, and hope. Little Syria paints a portrait of a diaspora carrying the shattered fragments of home, memory, and identity into an uncertain future.

Following the screening, there will be an artist talk with Reem Karssli and Madalina Rosca.
