Little Miss Sunshine

The Hoover family is simply different: father Richard is a budding guru and a failure in the truest sense of the word, so much so that even his wife Sheryl no longer believes in him. Son Dwayne has decided not to speak a single word. Richard's depressed brother-in-law has had a failed suicide attempt because of a messed-up relationship and grandfather Hoover has been thrown out of the retirement home because of bad behaviour and drug excesses. Only little Olive still seems to be at peace with the world - if it weren't for her incessant desire to become a beauty queen. When the seven-year-old is actually invited to take part in the "Little Miss Sunshine" competition, the whole family sets off on an old-school VW bus journey to faraway California. However, nerves are soon frayed, minor crises are followed by major disasters and in the end, even participation in the competition is jeopardised...
