Les Pistolets en Plastique
A law-abiding western line dancer, two eager amateur sleuths with Facebook diplomas, and the supposedly brilliant detective Zavatta — these four wildly different characters are united by the hunt for Paul Bernardin, who cold-bloodedly murdered his family. The overzealous hobby detectives trace the case all the way to the killer’s living room, while Zavatta finds himself tangled up with an uncooperative doppelgänger and the bureaucratic bungling of an incompetent police force. Meanwhile, a washed-up dropout in Argentina is looking forward to his dream wedding — unless his past catches up with him.
Loosely based on true events, Jean-Christophe Meurisse uses his third feature film to mercilessly dissect society’s obsession with true crime. With snappy dialogue, quirky characters, outrageous twists, and plenty of dark humor, Plastic Guns turns into an absurd thriller satire. (Judith Salner)
