Lebende Ware
Budapest 1944: SS-Obersturmbannführer Kurt Becher (Horst Schulze) is tasked with procuring equipment and horses for the SS cavalry regiment. When he moves into an elegant villa, he recognises its value and his opportunity for enormous profit. He devises a perfidious business plan: Himmler's instruction ‘blood for goods’ enables Becher to make a lucrative proposal for the Nazis (and for him) to the owner and chairman of the Weiss Group, Ferenc Chorin (Siegfried Weiss), and the chairman of the Judenrat, Rudolf Kasztner (Wolfgang Greese). They will survive if Becher takes over the company and is paid in cash and jewellery to leave for Switzerland. At the Nuremberg trials, Becher was questioned but not personally charged. As one of the richest men in Germany, he was never held accountable for his actions throughout his life. (E.S.)
