L’annee derniere a Marienbad
A supposedly simple story: a man and a woman meet in a lavish castle hotel. He is convinced that they met a year ago in the same place and had a date - she pretends to know nothing about it. Dreams, perceptions and memories manifest themselves fragmentarily in cool, razor-sharp images that unhinge reality ... Although Resnais has repeatedly claimed that he never intentionally made heavy films, his second feature-length film can still be seen as a confusing experiment in form and content. As the camera glides through the labyrinthine corridors to obscure organ music, a feeling of disorientation can creep up on you. Modern life, after all.
