La Région centrale (Die Zentralregion)
A classic of conceptual filmmaking. Michael Snow had a special camera built for this film that could be moved and zoomed in all directions (horizontally, vertically, sideways, even spirally) via remote control. He set it up in a remote area in northern Canada and let it run through all possible permutations of perspective and focal length for a good three hours while filming the surrounding wilderness. A unique film about the, according to film critic Dave Kehr, “strange tension between mechanical, mathematically determined (camera) operations and the random changes in the landscape, which is haunted by the light of the passing day”.
