La Palisiada

A pistol is fired twice. Once in 1996, once a good 25 years later. After the prologue in the present, this unusual social thriller dives into a murder investigation in the newly independent Ukraine, a turbulent time of upheaval. Philip Sotnychenko found inspiration in police VHS archive footage. He adopts its video aesthetic in order to skilfully break it again and again. With LA PALISIADA, he tells a visual puzzle on the one hand and how violence is passed on to the next generation on the other.
