Krótki Film O Zabijaniu
The fifth part of Kieślowski's Decalogue cycle, which has been expanded into a feature film, revolves around the commandment ‘Thou shalt not kill’ - and immediately made the director internationally famous. In the film, the paths of three different men cross: the newly qualified and idealistic lawyer Piotr, the young, disillusioned Jacek and an unfriendly taxi driver. After Jacek brutally murders the taxi driver for no apparent reason, he is caught and, despite the lawyer's intercession, sentenced to death. Thus an unlawful murder is seemingly atoned for by a lawful one. The film underlines the brutality and senselessness by depicting the events in an almost sober protocol-like manner, but bathing its world in an inhospitable, greenish-brown light using extreme colour filters.
