In Amsterdam, artist Roos meets farmer Bert, who has recently lost his wife. They spend the night together—then he returns to the countryside. Shortly after, she follows him, hoping to build something meaningful together. But while Bert remains trapped in his traditions, Roos gradually loses herself in the search for her own identity…

In her widely acclaimed feature film debut, director Frouke Fokkema illustrates the divide between city and rural life as the encounter of two very different temperaments. At a time when the contrast between urban and rural worlds is becoming increasingly visible—also on a political level—Fokkema explores the tension between cultural traditions and the necessity of mutual respect.
