KOTTAN ERMITTELT: FOLGEN 1–6
Far removed from the staid, know-it-all and overly noble television investigators we have become accustomed to, the grumpy, unwilling and misanthropic Major Adolf Kottan, played by Peter Vogel, causes a stir in his first screen appearance. Gone are the beautiful, touristy images of Vienna that had been present until then - instead, the grey atmosphere of old apartment blocks, dirty courtyards and begrudging tenants who openly display their dull malice reigns.
In 1976, KOTTAN ERMITTELT offended pretty much everyone who had expected harmless television entertainment. The public servants' union chairman calls for the series to be cancelled in view of the defamation of the police, and even parliament takes issue with it. But little by little, Kottan wins over the audience and becomes a more likeable character.
Today, KOTTAN is an undisputed television cult made in Austria. As part of our Christmas Patzak tribute, we are showing the first six episodes, each the length of a feature film, and celebrating the attitude to life at the end of the 1970s. (red)
