KOROMOUSSO, Big Sister

Co-director Habibata Ouarme explores the lifelong effects of female genital mutilation and the path to individual and collective healing, both in Africa and Canada. Together with a group of African-Canadian women, she uses her own painful experience to challenge cultural taboos around female sexuality and fights to regain control over her body. The meaning of female pleasure, the complexity of the female anatomy and the discarding of socialized feelings of shame and loneliness are discussed in an open, courageous, but also humorous way.
