Kneecap
The (not entirely true) story of the Irish band ‘Kneecap’. Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh, Naoise Ó Cairealláin and music teacher JJ Ó Dochartaigh met in 2017 and soon found so much favour with their provocative Gaelic songs about drugs, sex, being Irish and hatred of Britain that they were put under surveillance by the authorities. A frenetic, driving musical comedy whose anarchic humour tells of survival in a rough city.
Belfast: In the aftermath of the Northern Ireland conflict, the troublemaking rap trio Kneecap emerges, celebrating the resurgence of the Irish language with their music and soon becoming so popular with their provocative Gaelic songs about drugs, sex, being Irish and hatred of Great Britain that they are monitored by the authorities. The group became the political and rebellious symbol of an entire generation. Carried by pulsating hip-hop beats, KNEECAP is a rousing film that tells a story of existence beyond the boundaries of music - about the pursuit of identity, the lure of drugs and a passion for life.
