Kisses to the Children
In the presence of Vassilis Loules
‘IS THIS ANOTHER FILM ABOUT THE HOLOCAUST?
No, it's a film about childhood in the shadow of the Holocaust and how it affected children's lives. It's about giving a voice to children who lived in absolute silence. It is a film about revelation and about memory.’ (Fotini Patinari)
Hidden behind a window pane, the then 10-year-old Rosina Asser-Pardo had to watch the deportation train of the Jewish population of Thessaloniki. Her grandmother was also recognisable among the people on the street. Like Rosina, Iossif, Eftyhia, Shelly and Marios were also hidden as children with non-Jewish families. The film brings the memories of the five protagonists to life and also tells of Jewish life in Greece before the Nazis invaded the country. It shows rare historical footage of the occupation as well as archive material that includes amateur footage of German soldiers and film footage secretly shot by Greek patriots. (red)
