King’s Land
In 1755, the impoverished Captain Ludvig Kahlen sets out with a seemingly impossible goal: to conquer the harsh, uninhabitable Danish moors in order to found a colony in the name of the king. In return, he is to receive the longed-for royal name for himself. But the sole ruler of the area, the merciless Frederik de Schinkel, arrogantly believes that the land belongs to him. When de Schinkel learns that the maid Ann Barbara and her servant husband have sought refuge with Kahlen, the privileged and spiteful ruler vows revenge and does everything in his power to drive the captain away. Kahlen refuses to be intimidated and takes up the unequal fight - risking not only his life, but also that of the family of outsiders that has formed around him.
This haunting historical drama celebrated its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and won three European Film Awards, including one for lead actor Mads Mikkelsen.
