Jessica, Perla, Julie, Ariane, and Naïma live in a home for young mothers — five teenage girls hoping for a better life for themselves and their babies.

“Each story was shaped around the respective teenage mother and her child, both inside and outside the home for young mothers. What connects them is early motherhood, intertwined with the social determinism of poverty and certain emotional deficits. These can lead to the same patterns of behavior being repeated from generation to generation. That is precisely what they are trying to break free from, and in doing so, they appear unique, vibrant, and individual. In a way, they stop being characters — and become people,” explain Jean-Pierre Dardenne and Luc Dardenne about Jeunes Mères – Junge Mütter.
