Johnny Guitar

A feminist, fiery western melodrama set in 19th century Arizona: saloon owner and successful entrepreneur Vienna - incomparable: Joan Crawford - has to defend her interests against those of the cattle ranchers who fear for their own supremacy. When her former lover and ex-gangster Johnny reappears years later, old feelings flare up again. Meanwhile, the conflicts come to a head and Vienna's rival (or secret admirer), the landowner Emma, does everything she can to get rid of her ... At the time of its release, Nicholas Ray's film was met with negative reactions, but around ten years later the Cahiers du Cinéma critics recognised it as the best western of all time, and Martin Scorsese would later join in this hymn of praise.
