Jiskor / Gedenket
Every year, a small Eastern Jewish community gathers to remember the young Leibke, who paid a bitter price for his steadfastness. When the count's daughter makes advances towards Leibke, the farmer's son, he rejects her and remains faithful to his fiancée. In her anger, the young countess claims that Leibke has harassed her, whereupon the count has him arrested. Freed by friends, he flees with his fiancée and marries her. After the count takes other Jews hostage, Leibke returns voluntarily, is humiliated and tortured, but once again spurns the countess's advances. Deeply hurt, she takes her own life... New restoration by the Filmarchiv Austria with the support of the Cinémathèque française and the Deutsche Kinemathek, largely based on the original camera negative.
