Jesus Christ Superstar (UNIVERSAL!!!)

The story of a reluctant messiah and misunderstood martyr: the film blurs antiquity and the present, ruins of an ancient complex flanked by modern scaffolding - Jesus, the white hippie, and Judas, the black revolutionary of the 1970s. Racism, the civil rights movement and the Vietnam War are reflected in a Jesus narrative that also reproduces stereotypical anti-Semitic images in the portrayal of Caiaphas and the Pharisees. JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR does not show a divine son, but a man struggling with his destiny. An outdated relic from the flower power era or an existential journey?
