Jessye Norman is the first film in which the most important and globally successful singer of classical music since Maria Callas provides an insight into her private life. In conversations lasting several days with André Heller, she reveals her fears, inspirations and the difficulties of being a star.

The dramaturgical rhythm of her confessions is interspersed with highlights from her song and opera repertoire - recorded in art spaces created especially for the film by important visual artists such as Arnulf Rainer, Brian Eno, Peter Kogler and Peter Pongratz.
