Jeff Mills, one of the great exponents of Detroit techno, has always had two other obsessions besides music: space on the one hand and film on the other. Over the years, he has repeatedly released records inspired by his favourite films - such as Georges Méliès' short film LE VOYAGE DANS LA LUNE (The Journey to the Moon) from 1902 or the science fiction film FANTASTIC VOYAGE from 1966.

However, no other film has occupied, influenced and inspired him as much as Fritz Lang's silent film METROPOLIS (1927). In 2000, Mills set the film to music for the first time, capturing the art deco architecture and scenes of proletarian revolt in shimmering, abstract synth sounds and driving techno. Ten years later, he wrote a new score that would take on the perspective of the film characters.

‘Metropolis Metropolis’, his third original composition based on the film, is intended to represent the machines in the film. The 75-minute album is divided into six tracks reminiscent of suites and is Mill's most extensive arrangement of Lang's masterpiece to date.

Live on the Gartenbaukino stage, however, Jeff Mills will play the entire restored version of the film from 2010 - almost two and a half hours!
