Jedermann und Ich
For more than half a decade, documentary filmmaker Katharina Pethke (reproduction) has accompanied the celebrated actor Philipp Hochmair, who can be seen this year as ‘Jedermann’ in Salzburg, with her camera. The film portrait always remains an attempt, as the boundaries between reality and fiction are fluid. Who is the private person Philipp Hochmair behind all the different masks? The director's artistic and personal doubts mingle with her contradictory feelings towards her protagonist.
Katharina Pethke captures both the fleetingness of the moment and Hochmair's countless roles in magnificent black-and-white shots. The fascination of this artistic portrait lies once again in the relationship between the closeness and distance of Pethke, Hochmair and the camera. This filmic triangular relationship is accompanied by guitar riffs from Hochmair's band ‘Die Elektrohand Gottes’.
‘The film retains the roughness of an unfinished reflection without getting stuck in the vague.’ (DOK Leipzig)
