It Happened One Night
Two worlds collide when Ellie, the runaway daughter of a wealthy banker, and Peter, a recently fired newspaper editor, meet on a bus to New York. Before they know it, the two find themselves on an unexpectedly adventurous and amusing journey…
Released in 1934, IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT set new standards: while the film adheres to the rules of propriety imposed by the newly introduced Hays Code, it simultaneously mocks them in every conceivable way. The pairing of a rich girl and a working man also reflects the era of the Great Depression, from which audiences were only too eager to escape into dizzying comedies filled with rapid-fire dialogue, witty verbal sparring, and the battle of the sexes. Timelessly good!
