Shortly after the fall of the Iron Curtain, New York music journalist Ruth travels to Poland with her father Edek. There she wants to get to the bottom of her Jewish family's history. For Edek, a Holocaust survivor, this is the first journey to the places of his childhood. Ruth tries to better understand her parents' traumas, but her plans are thwarted by her ever-happy father, who wants to put the past to rest.
