IN THE DIRECTOR’S CHAIR SITS A WOMAN
The prominent role of Israeli women in film culture and the development of feminist cinema is presented for the first time in this impressive documentary by Smadar Zamir. Against the backdrop of feminist debates in Israeli society and recent archival discoveries, she gives 26 female directors a personal voice and shows selected scenes from their work. What is feminist film, what themes and aesthetics determine the works, what difficulties did the directors have to deal with? Above all, what answers can the director give us?
(Frank Stern)
On 17 March, Smadar Zamir will present her new film NO CAKES FROM THE HOMEFRONT about Israeli women during the 1973 Yom Kippur War at the METRO and discuss it with the audience.
