In Erinnerung an Siggi Götz

At the beginning of 2024, the distinguished film and television director Siegfried ‘Sigi’ Rothemund passed away in Menorca at the age of 79. He probably never made peace with his alias Siggi Götz, after whom even the best German-language film magazine is named, until the end, as he mainly used the pseudonym to draw those works that he himself considered to be ‘shit films’. These two films will hopefully convince you otherwise: first a lively Lederhosen sex romp about resourceful methods to get a grip on the inadequate population growth of the small village of Vögelbrunn, then a holiday film garnished with disco hits and naked skin that takes its young protagonists to the Philippines, where Herbert Fux as a priest and his cheeky chimpanzee Jimmy cause chaos.
