Ich und die Kaiserin
During one of his hunting trips, the bon vivant Marquis de Pontignac captures a ladylike garter that the pretty Juliette, the empress's personal hairdresser, has ‘borrowed’ from her. The find has consequences - Pontignac's horse runs away with him and he ends up seriously injured in a barracks, where he is given little chance of survival. His supposed last wish: a reunion with Marianne, the love of his life ... An ‘extensive journey through “Saltenland”’ (Werner Michael Schwarz), directed by one of the most popular composers of early German sound film, with a highly charming Conrad Veidt. Biting satire, cabaret-like comedy and/or light-heartedly cheerful operetta - shortly before Hitler's seizure of power, it was the last work for German film for many of those involved. (Silvia Breuss)
