Hold On To Her
In 2018, Mawda Shawri, sister of Hama, daughter of Phrast and Shamden, was two years old. She was shot dead by a Belgian police officer during a border check. Five years after the act of violence, 40 activists appear on camera in the premises of the organization La Voix des Sans Papiers in Brussels and stage a collective reading. In words of mourning and admonition, they read out the protocols and records of the crime and retell memories and reactions.
With urgent poetry, Robin Vanbesien's HOLD ON TO HER traces a lived social infrastructure of care, solidarity and the struggle for legal equality that confronts police impunity and the state's lack of accountability.
In the presence of director Robin Vanbesien.
