Heut’ ist der schönste Tag in meinem Leben
This Austrian émigré film production reunites some of the Jewish filmmakers most fiercely opposed by the Nazis in the Vienna Prater. Star tenor Joseph Schmidt plays a double role and, together with comedians Felix Bressart and Otto Wallburg, creates images of Vienna full of lightness - images that were to stand in stark contrast to the later fate of some of the protagonists. Schmidt, Wallburg and Forest became victims of the Nazi regime a few years later. (Ernst Kieninger)
