Helke Sander: Aufräumen

An icon of the women's movement and German cinema: Since the late 1960s, filmmaker Helke Sander has been politically and artistically committed to taking a critical look at the patriarchal conditions of society and the funding structures of the cultural landscape. Richarz's portrait accompanies her in the present and in the memory of her past, for example her famous tomato speech in 1968 to the Socialist German Student Union or the founding of the magazine Frauen und Film. In addition to numerous archive materials and insights into her film work, AUFRÄUMEN also touches on Sander's position within current feminist debates. What is certain is that her work was decisive for the emancipatory awakening of German-speaking female filmmakers.
