Heimkehr
The attacks on the German minority increase in 1939 in eastern Poland. As the Polish mobilisation begins, Maria defends herself against the arbitrariness to which her fiancé eventually falls victim - he dies after being beaten up and turned away from hospital. Germans are arrested and are to be shot. Their resistance and the approach of the Wehrmacht prevent this, and a large trek finally leads them ‘home to the Reich’ ...
Its complete reversal of the situation - the brutal Nazi terror is portrayed as that of the Poles, who murder children, women and men as primitive ‘sub-humans’ - and its legitimisation of the invasion of Poland make the film particularly perfidious.
