Guns
Guns - It's about arms trafficking, but who gets the weapons from where to where and for what motives remains a mystery until the very end. Journalist Toni (Patrick Bauchau) follows various leads and ends up in the harbour area of Marseille. He fails to shed light on the thicket of politically motivated crime and international corruption. Other stories are connected to this, sometimes only through selective touches: Actress Margot (Juliet Berto) cares for her dying mother (Béatrice Lord); an American expat (R. Kramer) and his patchwork family harbour a confused, mute woman (Hermione Karagheuz). Guns was not the film that French film critics expected from Kramer. Today, more than four decades later, the film is a rediscovery: Kramer's attempt to connect with Jacques Rivette's playful forms. He fell short of this goal in a puzzling, yet fascinating way.
