Gruber&Turnheim vertonen: BUSTER KEATON – GO WEST

FromBuster Keaton

Year1925

Duration90min.

** €25 surcharge for nonstop **

Lonely and penniless, Buster heads west in search of his fortune. He finds a job as a cowboy—and Brown Eyes, the cow. Soon the two are inseparable. Until she is to be transported to the slaughterhouse. His fight for his love plunges first him, then all of Los Angeles into chaos.

Buster Keaton (1895–1966) was born in the same year as cinema itself. The world of film was enriched by “The Great Stoneface” with his stoic expression, daredevil stunts, breathless chases, brilliant gags, and masterful staging. Practically every silent-era comedy by and starring Buster Keaton is today regarded as an unsurpassed classic.

GO WEST was made during Keaton’s most successful period. After chase scenes involving crowds of policemen (Cops, 1922) and brides (Seven Chances, 1925), he now flees a herd of cattle through the streets of the big city. Ralph Turnheim discovered the fascinating world of silent film through Keaton’s comedies. As the “voice of silent cinema,” the film narrator shares this passion with his audience through wit, charm, and full physical commitment. Anyone who experiences GO WEST POETRY will fall hopelessly in love—with silent film, or with the cow.

Live accompaniment by silent film narrator RALPH TURNHEIM and silent film pianist GERHARD GRUBER.
