Green Border

A multi-perspective drama about the attempts of migrants to cross the border between Belarus and Poland. For a Syrian family and an Afghan woman, the escape becomes a grotesque journey through hell in the face of the brutality with which the migrants are driven back on both sides. A Polish border guard, who initially finds the cruel practice justified, gradually begins to reflect, while Polish activists try to help the refugees.

Shot in black and white and focusing on the events in the forests along the border, the film harshly traces the erosion of human rights and European asylum regulations in the wake of the refugee crisis from 2014 onwards. It is a harsh indictment of Polish refugee policy and the European Union. By looking at the civil society engagement of activist groups, the film nevertheless ends on a hopeful note.
