Grave of the Fireflies
**Grave of the Fireflies**, also known as **The Last Fireflies**, is a poetic anti-war drama from Studio Ghibli and is considered one of the saddest yet most beautiful anime classics of all time.
It is the year **1945**. Japan is being bombarded by American bombers attempting to force the country into surrender. Bombs rain down from the sky, and where they strike, the earth burns. In the inferno of one such attack, **fourteen-year-old Seita** and his **four-year-old sister Setsuko** lose their mother. Their father has long been away serving in the navy, leaving the children completely on their own. At first, they find shelter with relatives, but in the relentless hardship of war, extra mouths to feed are not welcome. So, Seita and Setsuko move into an abandoned bunker, trying to survive on their own.
